Masters
Swimmers
All skill levels are
welcome - from the fitness swimmer to the team member that is
nationally competitive. North Carolina Aquatic Masters is the
second largest team in the LMSC for NC. It practices in the Maurice
J. Koury Natatorium on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. North Carolina
Aquatic Masters (NCAM) is a chapter of the large state club, North
Carolina Masters Swimming (NCMS). Team members who
compete within the state swim for NCAM, and outside the state
for NCMS.
With 11 coached workouts
per week, it usually isn't very difficult to find a routine that
works with your other commitments. We have some parents that bring
their children for the age group workout and squeeze in a masters
workout when the times overlap. Our usual workout schedule includes
the following:
Tue., Thur. Fri.
5:30- 7:00 AM
M, W, F 12:15- 1:30 PM
M, W 7:30 - 9:00 PM
Sun. 8:00- 9:30AM
See the
calendar page for this months workouts and give us your email address
(send us your email)
so we can alert you of any last minute changes.
Most of the year the
pool is configured for short course, 25 yards across. However
in the late spring and summer the pool is usually set up for long
course, 50 meters. The workouts are usually printed and tailored
for three different groups:
A Group
4,200 to 5,200 yards or meters.
B Group 3,200 to 4,200 yards or meters.
C Group 2,500 to 2,800 yards or meters.
You choose your group
to swim with and you will quickly get to know your "lane
mates".
The workouts are varied
and there is no pressure on anyone to do a particular workout.
The meeting the goals of a workout is the choice of the individual.
The coaching team may ask someone to move to another lane if they
are too fast or too slow for the lane they are in . The typical
mood of the group is to have a good time and to enjoy working
hard. Our ages
range from 19 year to 80+ and we represent all skill levels.
